Troy is a city located in Metropolitan Detroit's northern suburbs in Oakland County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 80,980 at the 2010 census, making it the 11th-largest city in Michigan by population, and the largest city in Oakland County. Troy has become a business and shopping destination in the Metro Detroit area, with numerous office centers and the upscale Somerset Collection mall.

In 1959, the Troy City Commission appointed a ten-member Library Committee to investigate the possibility of a library for Troy.
The 127,000 square foot Troy Community Center includes a fitness center, recreation and leisure classes and public banquet and meeting room rentals. It offers residents of all ages the opportunity for personal development, socialization and stress relief. The Center is also the administrative hub for the Recreation Department.
The Troy of the past was a stable farming community with a very low crime rate and very little traffic. Nevertheless, by the 1950’s there was a growing desire for the township to have its own police department so that response times would be short when emergencies did occur.
